Book Launch
The Skin Beneath by Nairne Holtz, plus new writing by Jane Kansas
Nairne Holtz is a writer and erstwhile librarian who lives in Montreal with her lover and miniature dogs. She grew up in Nova Scotia, the daughter of American hippies who went "back to the land". The Skin Beneath, published by Insomniac Press, is her first novel. She is also the co-editor of No Margins: Writing Canadian Fiction in Lesbian (QPress, 2006) which has been shortlisted for a Lambda Literary Award.
Jane Kansas comes to Nova Scotia in May of 1986. She thinks she's going to stay for the summer, but the Roach Motel Effect sets in and now she's been here longer than two decades. In the early years she's a big-ass gay activist, but like many she burns bright and burns out. Then she is a rogue journalist specializing in small anthropologies. Now she lives with two cats and doesn't do too much of anything. "Ten Ways My Dad Was Weird" is a new piece of work and thus gets its first public airing.
