Every year, since 2000, the Venus Envy Bursary Fund has given two women in Nova Scotia each a $1000 bursary. The bursary is awarded based primarily on need but also community involvement and other criteria. Starting in 2008, the bursary will be open to all women and trans people studying in Nova Scotia at any level of education.

We raise funds by selling pride bracelets and Venus Envy t-shirts at the store. We also donate 5% of in-store sales on the first Monday of each month. Or, you can mail us a cheque payable to the Venus Envy Bursary Fund...thanks!

Summary:

This is a good book on a topic for which there is little information. It's well-structured, generally well-written, and even-handed. In most chapters, emphasis is placed on developing communication skills. The focus is fairly narrow, so unless you fit their very specific audience, you may have to do work quite hard to pick out the useful bits.

BAD ASS ART invites you to view a collection of Indian ink line drawings by Artist Wendie L. Poitras @ Venus Envy. Wendie’s works are interpretive in nature and as a result can be viewed or hanged from different orientations. Most of her pieces have no ‘formal’ titles and she enjoys displaying her intent, but leaving the interpretation up to you… Works will be displayed during the month of May. Opening reception—Sunday, May 4th from 6:30-8pm.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS—PRIDE MONTH EROTIC ART SHOW

Looking for erotic paintings, photographs, sculpture, drawings, collages...for a Pride Month queer erotic artshow at Venus Envy in JULY. All electronic submissions will be reviewed and accepted works will be notified by JUNE 18th.


APPLICATION

By submitting artwork you agree to the following guidelines:

SUBMISSION:
1. Electronic submission: Up to 3 submissions per person (though images in a series or sequence may be considered). Please send .jpgs, scaled no larger 450kb × 450kb each at 72dpi. to: erotic@ballyhoomedia.com

2. Please note: The maximum height for most original art is 36". There are a couple spaces that can display larger.

3. All submissions must include:
—Artist name (and display name if different)
—Title of piece
—Medium used in the work
—Actual size of originals
—*contact email—please indicate if you wish it not to be listed along side your art
—*Artist statement—100 words max. (optional)
—*Artist bio—100 words max. (optional)
—*price (if available for sale)
*if you decide to send in an artist bio/statement or e mail address, you agree that this information may be made available to those viewing the art in either a walltag format, or in printed form for in-store purposes such as a program or brochure.

4. Venus Envy cannot accept responsibility for any damage or loss. Every possible precaution will be taken to secure works but there will be no insurance coverage for this exhibition.

5. Sale of art. If a piece is sold during the course of the show, the artist agrees pay Venus Envy a commission fee of 20%.

6. Submission deadline: JUNE 15 2008. Please email submissions to: erotic@ballyhoomedia.com Selected artists will be notified by JUNE 18th. Artwork will be judged based on originality, composition and sex appeal.

ART DROP-OFF:
7. Drop-off date: Selected pieces for the show are to be dropped off on Friday JULY 1st. Venus Envy is open from 10am—6pm.

8. Each dropped-off piece must clearly have the artist's name and artwork's title listed on the back.

9. All artwork must be ready to hang—ie. must be mounted or framed with a hanging wire or eyelets. Entries that are not ready to hang cannot be exhibited.
