Every Friday, sex educator and author Patrick Califia answers a question from our customers on the Venus Envy website as the Venus Envy Advisor. This is a very popular feature of our site, but we thought it would be fun to bring you the 'best of' every newsletter. The letter below was our favorite from the past couple of months—enjoy!
Dear Patrick,
Do you think it is possible to forgive somebody for cheating? My wife told me a week ago that she had a brief affairs with a co-worker. He has left her company and she says it's over. She wants me to understand that there were problems in our relationship that forced here into being unfaithful. But I didn't know we had any problems until ...

Divergence Movie Night presents "The Believers"
Built around the world's first transgender gospel choir, Transcendence Gospel Choir, The Believers is an unprecedented documentary that shatters assumptions about faith, gender, and religion. It follows their shaky beginnings—a heartwarmingly chaotic, cacophonous group unable to agree on much of anything, arguing over appropriate wardrobe and learning to sing with transitioning voices—through their transformation into the polished, award-winning choir and close-knit family they are today. Revealing the lives of the members and their personal struggles, it deals with how they reconcile their gender identity against a religious belief that changing one's gender goes against the word of God. The intimate personal stories shed light on the complexity of balancing social change, family history, religion and identity.

Orgasmic Birth, a new documentary film by internationally respected educator, doula and birthing expert Debra Pascali-Bonaro, examines the intimate nature of birth and the powerful role it plays in women's lives when they are permitted to experience it fully. Orgasmic Birth asks women to reexamine what they think they know about giving birth and the potential it holds.
"Undisturbed birth is an integral part of women's sexuality and a widely neglected human right," states Pascali_Bonaro, who began videotaping births around the world more than five years ago. Her goal: to educate and inspire people to consider their options and the implications of the circumstances of birth for women's and babies' health and well-being. As Dr. Northrup cautions in the film, people have been "brainwashed" to view birth, not as a natural process, but as "an emergency waiting to happen."
Witness the everyday miracle of pleasurable birth, and its infinite possibilities, in this remarkable film and understand how different birth can be from what is so commonly expected in Canada today. The couples featured in Orgasmic Birth share a commitment to broadcasting the truth about the heights to which birth can soar. They candidly discuss their fears and reveal ways in which support and nurturing empowered them to labour and birth their babies safely and pleasurably.
Well known birth specialists who appear in the film include Christiane Northrup, MD, best-selling author and OBGYN; Ina-May Gaskin, founder/director of the Farm Midwifery Center in Summertown, Tenn.; Sarah J. Buckley, MD, author of Gentle Birth, Gentle Mothering; Elizabeth Davis, BA, CPM, co-founder and director of the National Midwifery Institute; and maternity care specialist Marsden Wagner, MD, former director of Women's and Children's Health for the World Health Organization.
Watch the web site for the air date this fall of a special feature about Orgasmic Birth on the ABC-TV news show "20/20."

Research study on lesbian sexuality
Do you identify as a lesbian woman? Are you between the ages of 18 and 35? If so, you are eligible to participate in a research study on lesbian sexuality.
The purpose of the study is to gain an understanding of how lesbians describe their patterns of sexual response. The study will particularly focus on sexual desire, sexual arousal, and orgasm. Individual interviews will be held. Following the interview session, there will be a questionnaire. Don't be shy, you can be as personal or objective as you feel comfortable.
Participants sought for this study are women who identify as lesbian, aged 18-35, who are premenopausal and have oral and written proficiency in English. For participating in this study, you will receive a $10 gift card of your choice (e.g. Starbucks, Chapters, Blockbuster, etc…). Only 1-1.5 hours of your time are required for participating in the study. Participating in a study on lesbian sexuality may present you with an ideal opportunity to learn more about your own sexuality and sexual behaviours. You will also have the chance to contribute to an area of research that is greatly understudied.
If you are interested in participating in an interview, email Ashley Ronson (aronson@uoguelph.ca), to coordinate your availability. This research is conducted under the supervision of Dr. Robin Milhausen from the University of Guelph as part of a Masters thesis.
