Ever since I could hold a crayon, I’ve been creating art. For the last ten years, I have given up the crayons and moved on to other media. I enjoy working in charcoal and ink; however, I am a painter at heart. Despite the misconception that abstract is not an art form, I disagree. I love the play of color, line, and texture that can be achieved through abstract art. Painting for me is very satisfying. I enjoy creating something beautiful that catches the eye of the passerby. Seeing people take in my work is one of my favorite things. I like finding out what they see in my work, as opposed to hoping they see what I intended. No piece of art will ever be viewed the exact way the artist anticipated. Personal experiences and influences will change how one reflects on a piece of art and that is the most important message to me. I hope that people walk away from my art positively and feeling better about that last shoe purchase they made.
In my series titled Indulgence I explore the impracticality of women’s shoes from ballet slippers, to impossibly high stilettos. Shoes in themselves are art. They are colourful, elegant, and coveted by even the most prestigious women. Shoes transform the women that wear them. They can make even the dreariest outfit seem fabulous. The shoes in my paintings go from sharp and bold, to soft and beautiful. For those who don’t have the courage to wear a brightly coloured shoe, I have created a series of paintings that will appeal to the inner seductress. For those who love shoes and have closets full of barely worn boots, stilettos, Mary Jane’s, and kitten heels, or for those of you who just look through the window and pine; feed your desires and indulge in a shoe that fits your personality. Be Inspired.
